Desmond rents from Letter in Caherciveen parish

The 1684 inquisition recorded that the late Earl of Desmond was owed 13s. 4d. yearly rent from Lettyrei, identified in footnotes as Letter in the Parish of Caherciveen. Lands in this parish were held by the McCrohon and O'Connell families in 1641 and later granted to Trinity College.

Knockanure townland east of Listowel

Knockanure is an elevated townland about six miles east of Listowel and a couple of miles from the County Limerick border, almost nine miles from the Shannon. The author recalls no ruined church in its immediate neighbourhood and is unacquainted with its traditions.

(3) Knockanure, on the other hand, is an elevated townland about six miles to the east of Listowel, and a couple of miles from the County Limerick. It is almost nine miles from the river Shannon, and its “declivity” on that side is so gradual as to be almost imperceptible. I recollect no “ruined church” in its immediate neighbourhood. With its traditions I am unacquainted.
