The books behind the stories

Passing Places reads the histories, guides, journals and folklore of each county, most of them written in the nineteenth century, and keeps every passage that tells the story of a place. These are the books it has read so far, all cleared for public use, each linked to the copy it was read from.

Rights

Every book here is in the public domain in Ireland, where copyright runs for seventy years after the author's death. For most, the author's dates are on record; for the rest, publication before 1927 and no known living rights. The texts come from the Internet Archive and Project Gutenberg, whose own terms are respected, and a book found to be still in copyright stays off this page and out of what the companion says. If you hold rights in a work listed here, or know of an error in how a book is credited, please write to us.
